Who are we & what do we do?
Hello! We're the Community Clothes Bank, providing free clothes to those that need them. We hate waste and love seeing good quality preloved clothes going where they’re needed most.
We support those who are financially struggling: from growing families to refugees, people who have been seriously ill, or those escaping domestic violence. We also help like-minded charities and organisations, social and keyworkers. But there are always more that need our help.
Our pop up events are held regularly in Whitstable, Margate and Canterbury. Customers who come to these events are welcome to choose clothes for free for themselves and their family. There are also free clothes rails in various locations across East Kent.
The Community Clothes Bank formed from local need. As some people spent lockdown 1.0 and 2.0 sorting huge piles of unwanted clothing (with charity shops unable to keep up with the influx), others spent that time with children growing out of clothing, needing something smart for a new job or interview, or having to leave home quickly due to a crisis situation with no resources.
To address both challenges, we came up with a plan to combine combatting clothing waste with local clothing poverty. The Community Clothes Bank has been shaped by its local community ever since.
Now we hold regular clothes banks in Whitstable, Margate and Canterbury and have free clothes rails in various locations across East Kent. Customers that come to these events are welcome to come and choose clothes for free for them and their family.
